Principal Yakibchuk and Assistant Principal Payne

Hi!Picture of Mary Yakibchuk
My name is Mary Yakibchuk (Yah-keeb-chük) and I am the K-12 Principal for Northland Community Schools.  I am excited to be a part of this amazing learning community, and I hope to contribute my skills and energy to help bring out the best from our students and staff.
The 2018-19 school years marks my 7th year as a school administrator, and I look forward to continuing to learn and develop my leadership skills as I work with and for the NCS community.  Before coming here, I worked as a Principal and Interim Executive Director of a charter school in St. Paul.  Prior to my work in administration, I taught for several years as a science teacher, in both rural and suburban schools, for grades 6-12.

My passion for education and my belief that all students deserve the very best education we can offer fuels everything that I do as an administrator.  I also try to balance my drive with the soft skills necessary to motivate and inspire others to their best.  I stress learning with and from each other and happily extend that out to parents and the community.  As individuals, the task of educating tomorrow's leaders is quite challenging, but by working together, we can and will accomplish great things!
On a more personal note, I am looking forward to putting down some roots, and finding my forever home (hobby farm!), up here in northern MN, where my family and I can live, work and play (and boat and fish and farm) in this beautify area with the beautiful people that also live here.

Picture of Jon Payne My name is Jonathan Payne and I have the privilege of being your Assistant Principal here at Northland Community Schools. I have held many roles in Education in places such as:  Mexico, Colorado, Alaska, and Arizona. However it all started here when I was a student at District 118.  I love working with students, staff, and community here at Northland Community Schools as we all grow together and give our students the very best opportunity for success both in school and throughout life.
